Congratulations on a successful weekend for BYC Cadets Alexa Atkins, Honor Hopkin & Freya Watts at the RYA Acorn regatta on 3rd/4th September. The 2-day event in Llangorse, was the final event in the RYA CYRC Dragon series following regattas at Llandegfedd, Mumbles, Tata & Cardiff Bay. Damp, blustery weather, gusting 20 knots at times, ensured some good sailing conditions for the final event.

This was only the second time that Alexa had raced at a regatta & she impressed all, achieving 1st place in the Topper training fleet.

Having started the Dragon series in the training fleet, Honor & Freya were now competing in the silver fleet. Honor sailed consistently well against more experienced helms, to get 1st place at Acorn and winning the overall Dragon series in the Topper silver fleet.

Unfortunately, Freya had to retire with a fractured finger, but having sailed proficiently at all the previous events, she secured 3rd place overall in the Dragon series Topper silver fleet. Freya’s enthusiasm for racing meant she still got on the water to assist on the committee boat.

All three girls thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, honing their skills, gaining experience & making friends whilst racing with other young sailors from around South Wales

Thanks go to the Cadet support team at BYC for starting them on their sailing journey & igniting their passion for dinghy racing. Thanks also to CBYC sailing school for their additional support & coaching.
