If you have visited Barry Yacht Club in the past then you are sure to recognise the blue and white Victorian style Club House, but notice the now completely refurbished Lifeboat House, which now contains a computerised training room and cadet dingy store.

You will also see the excellent new building which provides a members equipment locker room and inflatable dingy storage facility, together with a workshop large enough to accommodate boats of thirty six feet in length. We also have outside hard standing space, inside fenced areas for storage of members craft.

BYC Club House

Yes things have changed and improved greatly at Barry, funded by a £500,000 development, sponsored by Sportlot, Vale of Glamorgan and the W.D.A. alongside building fund contributions from members.

Since the Club was first formed in 1928, it has seen many changes in direction, from starting as the Barry Yacht and Motor Boat Club, offering racing for sailing and motor boats, to the heady days of dinghy racing in the 60’s and 70’s when extensive fleets of Albacores, National 18’s and Mirrors could be seen on the start line off Jackson’s Bay.

In later years the Club has focused more on cruising, with many members embarking on long distance voyages, whilst others continued to enjoy evening and weekend club racing.

In its 87th year, the Club now has excellent facilities for its existing membership, as well as the capacity to welcome new members, both with and without boats.

Why not come and join our very friendly Club as a social, sailing, rowing, fishing or cadet member and take advantage of the first class location, a chance to make new friends, and to enjoy sailing along our beautiful coastline.

To keep local water sports activities affordable, there are several classes of membership available. As an example, a family with a 30ft long boat could enjoy full membership, summer mooring and winter storage for their craft, including  lifting in and out, and dingy storage, for £937 per year.

See the Joining BYC page for more details.
